Character Interview & Giveaway: See - By Jamie Magee

Hi peeps!

I get the extreme honor of interviewing  Draven, from Jamie Magee's new series, SEE!

Let's start out easy, since there is a lot of astrological signs mentioned in See, and you're a Taurus, if you could pick to be any other sign what would it be?
*He smiles boyishly, blushing slightly, before he gently clears his throat.* Well, I’ll admit that I do not know as much about the Zodiac as my Scorpio friend Madison does. *He furrows his eyebrows*...I’m not even entirely sure that I believe that this entire world can be classified into 12 signs, groups of people. The fact that I’m a twin, that me and my brother are both Taurus, yet I have a harder time controlling my temper, that my voice is stronger than his is a testimony of that. *His emerald green eyes laced in black glance around the room searching for a clear answer.* I guess...I guess if I could be like anyone else it would be Charlie, her sign is a Libra, and from what I gather about the traits of the people born under that sign is that they have balance, they see both sides to every argument, every situation. I would want to see the world that way, to not be angry when I hear an evil echo around me, to ask why, to find understanding, then finally a resolution - the way Charlie does.....if it wasn't for her, for the way she sees the world.....I’m sure we would have all considered ourselves insane at this point....cursed by the devil himself.
Being an artist, what sparks your creativity the most?
*His grin widens, enhancing every captivating feature of his addictive image, just as he leans back and begins to move his fingers across his knee as if he’s playing a mass of chords on his guitar.* All art, whether its music, painting, writing, sculpting - anything created from the soul does one thing. *He hesitates as his eyes drift to the place his mind goes when he writes his music.* It gently embraces emotion, something that in reality cannot be seen, touched, heard - something that none of our senses can grasp. In that embrace the artist molds their work into their expression, their interpretation of that emotion, and when it is complete the emotion is not imprisoned in that work...it’s defined. Others can hear it, see it, read it and feel what the artist felt, and when they do that, they relate that emotion to something in their life. They understand that they are not alone, that every soul faces emotions that can either rip you into, or lift you to the heavens. As an artist I find inspiration by just breathing. I find it on a long drive, flight, I find it when I’m with my friends, I find it when I’m thinking of the girl I can’t seem to live without, I find it when I fight my demons. What I do create, the sound, the lyrics, can never truly express how deep my emotions run, but....it opens the door for others, just enough for them to take what is going on in their life and relate, then find the courage to embraced every emotion, both good and bad.
Knowing how your love life turned out, who would you want to pair your brother with?
*He quietly laughs under his breath at the thought of his brother falling in love.* Well, I think what I’ve been through, the roller-coaster of emotions as terrified him. *His eyes grow serious as his smile fades slightly.* I kinda feel bad for Madison and Aden....being who we are, able to do what we can do is hard to deal with, even if you know you have family and friends that are dealing with the same thing....you can’t just let anyone in, date the way people our age do...its dangerous for them, and you, because you don’t want to lose your balance with what your enduring, and you don’t want to put anyone in danger....then there is the fear that the person you fall for may have you committed once you tell them what you can do.... *He grins slightly as a random thought crosses his mind.* Even though we are twins we are like night and day. Aden is a complicated, yet simple person. He expresses his passion for music in countless ways, he can play at least five instruments at a level that would turn anyone's head....but when he plays the drums he comes alive. All his anger, frustration, even his rhythm with life comes out. When he’s not playing, his nose is in a book, usually a philosophy book, Joseph Campbell, and Carl Jung are his heroes....he thinks deeply, and wants to understand life at its core. Whoever he ends up with would have to be someone who sees music as a life form, the way he does, someone who thinks for themselves, the way he does, someone that can give him the freedom to be who he is - someone that he can hold when the darkest moments are over.....he says he’s ready to leave with Austin, our friend from Chara, because he wants peace for all of us, but I know him....I know he’s wondering that if somewhere out there, there is a girl that can understand and love him...someone that will not be afraid of who we are.
Name your top 3 things you love most about Charlie:
I don’t know how anyone cannot become addicted to Charlie. She is.....she is a light....it doesn’t matter how dark it is, what is happening....she finds balance. She listens, she lets you express every raging emotion, then finds a way to help you see the victory that lies ahead. Her soul is full of passion....she was born with a divine gift in music....when she plays I swear I can see her soul, her warm energy fill the room. When she smiles at me I feel as if God himself is telling me that life, no matter how complicated it is, is a gift....I find myself staring into her dark eyes, wondering what mystery she is trying to unravel, where her heart is leading her. I’m not sure how clearly I answered your question, basically Love is not a strong enough word to express the way I feel when I’m around Charlie, there is not a sound I could play that would mock how powerful she makes me feel by just breathing...
Now, without giving anything away, how do you foresee your future going?
The first time I performed in front of a crowd that was larger than 100 or so people I was sixteen. My father let us open for one of the major bands he was producing. Even though I love music, playing, singing from my soul....I was terrified. In my mind I’d imagined everything from the sound to forgetting the chords going wrong. I was literally sick with the thought of stepping into that spotlight. My father sat me and Aden down the morning before that show. He told us that if we weren’t afraid of that night, then that meant that we didn’t want it bad enough, that embracing who you are, and expressing it with every part of your being was part of life. He said life was not always bliss, if it was, we would all be rather bored. He coached us through how not to see the crowd, but to be a part of it. To become the music, to flow with the aggressive sound, to act like we were born to do what we were doing.....he said when that when it was over, we would become addicted to the emotions we felt as the crowd roared, that all at once we would feel everything, and nothing at the same time, that even if the world ended that night, we would die smiling, accomplished, invincible. He was right....that night did not make me and my brother musicians....it taught us how to live. In a way it prepared us for everything we have seen, witnessed, endured...playing live for that many people - facing all your fears just so you could show the world that you deserved to do what you loved, to prove that the pain that may come with your dreams was shallow in comparison to your passion. I will never forget that lesson. I hear him in my thoughts when I think of what lies ahead for myself and the ones I love. I know my heart will pound in my chest at times, that my hands may tremble, that adrenaline will become a drug for me, for all of us, but I also know that once we get through what’s before us, once we understand the purpose in our dark gifts that the world will see that there is not one soul that does not deserve forgiveness, a second chance. I won’t lie, I feel the same way I did before that first concert...I’m terrified, and furious that I don’t know what’s coming at us, or how to overcome it, but I know that one way or the other....I will not leave this world in the same way that I found it...none of us will.

Now in my eyes I envision Draven as looking like this:

Interview & Giveaway - April Fifer & Danielle Hylton-Outland

Who: April Fifer & Danielle Hylton-Outland

Danielle Hylton-Outland was raised in Virginia. She grew up having a huge appetite for daydreaming; always wanting to live in the spectacular worlds she created in her mind. She now lives with her husband and dog where she is pursuing a degree in literature. Danielle is a strong animal activist. She is currently co-writing the second book in the Flesh Series, "Flesh and Flames".

April Fifer grew up in a small town in Virginia, where it was common practice believing that dreams could only be found in stories. At the age of seven she was diagnosed with dyslexia. She was told that she would struggle through life and would never pick up a book to read for pleasure. Although school was hard, she was able to find her way with the help of two teachers who taught her self-discovery. Ignoring what she was taught growing up, she turned it around and found that your dreams could become stories.

What: Flesh & Feathers

Azaleigh's life is simple until, by chance, she meets Kale.  Charming and handsome Az is immediately drawn to him. But long kept secrets lurk in the hearts of those Az holds most dear, and dangerous plans are unfolding around her.  As her life begins to crumble and Kale disappears, Gage, charismatic and striking, arrives, providing a calm port in an increasingly violent storm.  But with every narrow escape from a far from human bounty hunter after her life, Az begins to unravel a secret with the power to change her forever.  In an increasingly hostile world of Angel and Fallen, Azaleigh must navigate her own path, chose her own side, and ultimately protect her heart.  Faced with two gorgeous men, an enemy she doesn’t know, and a future she cannot understand, Az must make the choice: the man she loves, or the man she cannot live without.

How long have the 2 of you been writing partners?

We have been working together for about two years now. A lot of that has been us working on Flesh and Feathers. But we have worked on other projects as well. Flesh and Feathers was our first baby, and we had to figure out a system to work together. Now our writing has tripled in speed because we know exactly what to expect from each other.

Where did the idea for Flesh & Feathers come from?
It started because one of us read a book and was not at all happy with the ending. So we decided to make of our own ending. We came up with the idea of a girl falling in love with an angel. But that wasn’t good enough. We wanted drama, secrets, and lots of action. The plot evolved into something neither one of us saw coming. And as we’ve been writing the sequel, Flesh and Flames, the plot continues to thicken. We are loving it!!!

Who do you see playing Kale & Gage on the big screen?

This is sooooo easy! Danielle picked Robert Pattinson for Kale, and April picked Eric Dane for Gage! For Azaleigh, we both see Rosamund Pike.

Is this a stand-alone  novel or the first of many?

First of many! Flesh and Feathers is the first of The Flesh Series. The second book in the series is Flesh and Flames. We have also thrown around the plot for book three, which we are calling Flesh and Folly. There are other projects we have worked on as well. We just completed a short erotica called Love, Lies and a Bloke and are now working on a paranormal romance called The Witch and The Werewolf.

Quickies:

Pancakes or Waffles?
April: Pancakes – extra syrup.
Danielle: Pancakes – with whipped cream please.

Chocolate or fruity?
April: Chocolate
Danielle: Chocolate – are you kidding.

Favorite Animal
April: Horse – they are so beautiful.
Danielle: All of them – Do I have to choose? I’m an animal lover… actually let’s go with a teacup pig.

1st song on your playlist right now?
April: Anna by Stone Sour
Danielle: Closer by Nine-Inch  Nails

Interview & Giveaway w/Kate Klimo

Everyone help me welcome author & horse lover Kate Klimo!

Horses obviously are a huge part of your life, when did your love of them start?

I have always loved horses, from the time I played "horses" on the playground in kindergarten and took lessons with saved-up allowance in the Brookville stables near where I grew up in Sea Cliff on Long Island. But it was for my fiftieth birthday that my husband gave me a ten-pack of lessons and, for some reason, that triggered what might be called a mid-life mania, starting with lessons, then leasing a horse, then taking clinics, finally owning horses and taking fabulous riding vacations to all corners of the world. Now my horses are in a barn in my back yard and there's nothing more wonderful than to go out at night in my pajamas and visit or first thing with my morning tea.

If you could be anything else besides a writer, what would you be?

If I couldn't be a writer, I would be a horse trainer. No question.

 How often do you write?

When I am working on a book, I write every day. I wake up at four and write until eleven or so and then I get up and do stuff, preferably active stuff, like shopping or riding my horse or hiking. When I'm deeply into a book, I will sometimes write for twelve-hour stretches but that takes a toll.  I work in an office four days a week and have a roughly five-hour round trip by bus and, you guessed it, I write the whole way to and from the office. Makes the long trip seem short! There are usually one-to-two month periods between projects or while my editor has the manuscript at whatever stage it might be, outline, rough draft, etc. Those I call my fallow times, my not-writing times, which are as important to the process as the creative times because, after all, you have to let a field lie fallow for it to flourish on a regular basis. Don't want to strip the soil now, do we? Okay, I think I've beat the agrarian imagery to death, don't you?

Favorite writing snacks?

Because I can't be trusted to get up and get my own sustenance, my husband usually brings me a snack: apple and cheese or sliced oranges or sometimes some squares of dark chocolate. (Isn't he a sweetie?) I'm not a coffee drinker but when I am flagging, he will bring me a single shot of very sweet espresso as a pick-me-up. I drink water constantly because hydrating myself is good and also because it forces me to get up and move around, if only to the bathroom and back. Writing is an intense mental and physical process and it's good for both mind and body when you get up and shake yourself out on a regular basis.

Shift Blog Tour + Giveaway: Q & A with Chase & Rayna

The Shift Tour has ARRIVED!!

And all I can say is.......FINALLY!!
I have been waiting extremely, semi patiently for a while to get my hands on this book.
After reading the Exiled (my review here), I instantly knew this would be a new series favorite!

So for this stop on M.R. Merrick's blog tour, I really wanted to be able to ask his main characters some questions instead of him....wait that sounded slightly mean....anyways you guys know what I mean :)
Now here they are!

Rayna:
If your fight scene's had a playlist what would the top 3 songs be?

Brick By Boring Brick - Paramore
Savior - Rise Against
Thunderstruck - AC/DC

What's your favorite thing to do on a day when you're not hunting down evil?

I am a huge fan of horror movies, so in the event I get a moment's peace, I like to snuggle up on the couch with one of my favorites. That, or shopping, although Marcus says I have a tendency to overspend...

If you and Chase were a super hero team what would your team name be, and who would be the sidekick?
I don't now about a team name...but you and I both know Chase would be my sidekick.

Chase:

Ideal post fight meal?

Pepperoni and Bacon Pizza Pops. Nothing beats them.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully alive.
If you and Rayna were a super hero team what would your team name be, and who would be the sidekick?

I don't think I could come up with a name that wasn't lame, so if we ever become superheros, I'll let our adoring fans decide, but I think it's pretty obvious who the sidekick would be.

Thanks to the both of you for actually sitting down with me and answering some questions! I am beyond excited to see what happens to the both of you in Shift!

Interview & Giveaway - Michelle Warren author of Wander Dust

Everyone welcome Michelle Warren, author of Wander Dust

Do you have a Muse who helps you write?

Life is my Muse. This book closely represents many experiences I've personally had, and places that I have traveled.

What did you want to be growing up?

Oh gosh! This probably changed daily, but when I was in high school, I juggled between a fashion designer and a children’s book illustrator.

How much time per day do you give yourself to write?

At the moment, I’m focusing only on the marketing of Wander Dust. When I jump back into book 2, I’ll probably dedicate several hours a day to writing.

Quickies(Christmas Edition):

Fake or Real Tree?

Fake!

Tinsel or Popcorn String?

Tinsel is the bomb! I love how it reflects the lights and makes the tree appear magical. I worked at a movie theatre in high school, so I have a real aversion to popcorn.

Themed tree or Childhood ornaments?

Both. My husband is the real-life equivalent of Clark Griswold (National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation). He’s not happy unless we have four trees decorated and scattered around the house. He’d decorate more if I let him.

Unleashed Tour: Interview & Giveaway

Everyone welcome Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie!

I am more then thrilled to apart of their amazing blog tour for the release of Unleashed!
Over the weekend I finished Unleashed & it's PHENOMENAL, so that makes me even more excited to be hosting a stop in this tour!

What was the inspiration for Unleashed?

Nancy:  We had a werewolf character in Crusade whom we really loved, and we wanted to do something more with werewolves--with a twist.  We love magic, and what's more magical than people turning into wolves by the light of the full moon?  Some people might also notice that it's a riff off King Lear.

Debbie:  When I was a kid werewolves were my favorite monster and I dressed up as one for Halloween one year.  The title for the second book, Hot Blooded, was something we thought would be a great title for a werewolf story.  And so it was born!

What would be the top 3 songs in Katelyn's iPod be?

Nancy:  "Who are You, Really?" by Mikky Ekko; "Howl" by Florence + the Machine; "Alegria" by Cirque du Soleil

Debbie:  Agree!

How many books do you see in the Wolf Springs Chronicles?

So far, we are contracted for three.  We're in the middle of #2.

Quickies:

Turkey or Ham?

Nancy:  Turkey
Debbie:  Turkey

Favorite side:

Nancy:  stuffing
Debbie:  mashed potatoes

Pumpkin pie or pecan pie?

Nancy:  Pumpkin
Debbie:  neither (chocolate!!)

Football or Silence during dinner?

Nancy:  Christmas carols
Debbie:  Lively chatter

Interview & Giveaway - Kristie Cook

Welcome, Kristie Cook!

Author of The Soul Savers Series!

Thanks for stopping by!

How Many books do you see in the Soul Savers series?

7 in the main series (Alexis’s story) plus more novellas like Genesis (which just came out), short stories and maybe even full side novels

Who do you see playing Alexis & Tristan on the big screen?

I won’t say. I really have more of a composite of several actors in mind for each, but I won’t even share that. I prefer readers to come up with their own images. It makes the story more personal to them.

How do you over come writers block?

Depends on what’s causing it. Sometimes I still need to be “shown” the next scene by the characters and a walk or a shower helps. Other times, it’s because I forced something to happen in the previous scene(s) and the characters are telling me that it really didn’t happen like that, so they refuse to move forward. Then I have to go back and see where I made a character do something he or she would never do or where I missed their true reaction to something that happened.

Who is the one author you’d LOVE to co-write with?

Ha! This is the second time I’ve answered this today. The most obvious answer is J.K. Rowling, because she’s simply brilliant. But I don’t know that we’d work well together. In fact, she’d probably do all the writing and I’d just be nodding my head in agreement and drooling over her amazingness, having nothing worthwhile to add. Writing is such a personal activity, that anyone I co-author with would have to be a friend first. Someone I know well and can see we have a high level of synergy together. Someone who’s somewhat like me but also has different strengths and weaknesses so we can complement each other. So I don’t know, but if you ever see me co-author something, you know I found that person.

Quickies:

Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie?
Pumpkin

Blood Halloween or Gothic Halloween?
Gothic

Vampires or Werewolves?
Oooooh, I don’t know! Angels!

Haunter House or Corn Maze?
Haunted House – I know I’ll eventually get out of it. Plus they’re just a lot more fun.
