Review: Lord of the Vampires (Royal House of Shadows - Book #1) - By Gena Showalter

Author: Gena Showalter
Release Date: 9/2011
Purchase Info: Amazon, B&N, IndieBound

Nicolai the Vampire was renowned for his virility, but in a twist of fate “The Dark Seducer” had become a sex slave in the kingdom of Delfina—stripped of his precious timepiece and his memory. All that remained was a primal need for freedom, revenge—and the only woman who could help him.
In her dreams, a wanton vampire called to Jane Parker, drawing her to his dark sexuality and his magical realm. But for a human, all was not a fairy tale in Delfina. Jane was the key to Nicolai’s memory…but exploiting her meant dooming the only mortal he craved.

Hot, sexy & seductive from page one!

Receiving a very strange, very old book at your doorstep is rather curious. But Jane needs the unknown! Living through an accident that has taken everything from her, there seemed to be that spark missing from her life. As Jane starts reading it she instantly feels for the character, it's as if she's feeling his emotions. Dosing off all she can dream about is a man bound in a dungeon...a slave.
When she wakes up, Jane is in a completely different world where everyone is referring to her as the long lost princess. With glamour magic surrounding her, only one person can see through the it, the person who casted it and that's Nicolai. The slave.

Using Jane as his tool to get out of the castle that has held him prisoner for so long, Nicolai is bound and determined to do, or say, anything that will get him the hell outta dodge!
Knowing what she's getting herself into by helping Nicolai, that doesn't stop Jane. There's something about him that draws her to him, he accepts her, heats up her insides, and makes her want to do things she's never thought of!
Realizing she's helpless and far from home, Nicolai feels obligated to take Jane with him on his journey. Obligation turns to need, and for the first time in his life Nicolai is finally understanding what it's like to want a female, not just use them.
With time running out, Nicolai feels a force that is pulling him to return to Delfina, his home kingdom, and seek revenge....for what, he's not exactly sure.

Hot, hot, hot, sizzling! The chemistry between Jane & Nicolai was totally apparent from the beginning. Yes, there was a LOT of sexual lingo in this book, some super steamy scenes, and it seemed that all they wanted to do was get down. The plot behind this story had a good layout, but sometimes I found myself not sure what was a dream or what was actually happening when it came to Nicolai. Then, somehow, everything always seemed to just lead to sex. Don't get me wrong, I love a hot passionate scene, but sometimes it's just over done. I kind of felt like I was waiting for something to seriously knock my socks off. (besides the amount of times Nicolai could get down in one day) Regardless, there was still a good story line here, and I'm excited to see how the rest of the Royal House of Shadows series will play out their stories.

The Darkest Kiss - By Gena Showalter

Anya, minor goddess of anarchy, has always had that label of the bad girl. Don't get her wrong, she loves a little mischief, but throwing in that she's easy, well damn, that's a little harsh don't ya think? All she wants is to keep people out, no closeness, no true affection, no attachment. Anya has too much to lose if she let's someone have it all, and truthfully has never wanted to give it to anyone. That is until Lucien, the incarnation of death itself, pops onto her radar and all she wants to do is get close to him.

Lucien doesn't know what it is about Anya that get his blood boiling, and she seems to act as though she really likes him. Most women won't give him a second glace because of his scars, but there she is looking straight at him and making him burn to his core. All this is great, fine & dandy, until the Lord of THEE Underworld approaches Lucien and tells him to steal the one thing from Anya that she would never give up or else he'll make sure everyone Lucien cares about suffers to no end. Well if that doesn't suck I don't know what does?

Stuck together in search for an answer, Anya and Lucien are trying to unearth the one thing that will save not only Anya, but also save Lucien from carrying out the orders that will rip them apart.

Great book, love the passion, the intensity that these two share! This was my first Lords of the Underworld book, and the first Gena Showalter book that I had read as well. Hopefully soon I will be diving into the rest of Underworld books, and giving my piece of mind about those ones too, but for now enjoy!
