**REVIEW** Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

This was one of those books that I was just dying to read but held of for a little bit (a week) because I was temporarily worried about it having second book syndrome.  You know when the first book is amazing and you hear mind blowing things about the second book only to pick it up and find that it isn't what you had hoped and dreamed for.  Onyx does not carry the second book syndrome and I must say I loved it just as much as I loved the first one if not more.  The tension between Katy and Daemon is higher than ever and you can't help but love it.

Katy is as stubborn as ever in this book and her feelings for Daemon are not getting any easier to deal with.  There were times that I just wanted to scream because she wouldn't give him a chance.  In Obsidian I totally understood fighting her attraction but this one I really just wanted her to give him a chance.  But with all the things she has to worry about I guess that I cut her a little slack.  I mean with developing some of her own abilities and trying to keep them a secret from everyone is a lot of pressure.  Also her bond to Daemon makes her hesitant because lets face it if you thought the only reason someone was being nice was because there was something that attached the two of you, you might hesitate too.

Daemon...  Holy HOT alien alert.  I just want to put it out there that there is no way that Daemon would be able to walk the streets without being swarmed.  In Onyx he will raise your heartbeat to the max.  He shows us an entirely new side of himself.  The one where he can be sweet and put an effort forth and not just expect it all to come to him because he deserves it.  He also takes his level of devotion to an entire new level when he makes it clear that he would do anything to keep Katy safe.  I mean some total "Aww" moments happen in this book guys.  He knows how Katy feels and even if she denies it to no end he is not giving up.

The romance and the emotional level that this novel reaches is beyond awesome.  I truly love that Jennifer has found a way to have insta love that isn't insta love at all.  I know that many of you would debate this fact but really the attraction was right off the get go but Katy fights it and wants more than something like that.  Heck the blogger in her dislikes and loves insta love like we all do.  The chemistry that flies between Katy and Daemon is undeniable and it constantly leaves you at the edge of your seat.

The entire plot in this book is just full of suspense and action.  There is always something going on and even if you think you know what is going to happen, you don't.  Sometimes you can get it but the things that happen aren't always in line with what you would expect.  You learn more about the DOD as they are now in town and it appears they plan on staying.  If that isn't enough for you there is a new guy in town that seems to be interested in Katy and well lets just say Daemon more than dislikes him.

Jennifer L. Armentrout shows us once again just how amazing she is.  Her writing style is just down right addicting and the characters in the novel all come through loud and clear.  They all have their own voice and own feel.  Like Katy being a blogger and the mentions towards bloggers is something many people out there can relate to.  When Daemon appears in Katy's IMM Vlog I think every blogger out there was wanting a special appearance with him.  This is why I love that you feel that you are really a part of it all.  The feel that is there even at the end when you are left once again in wanting.  Well I know I was at least.

This book was packed with such intensity that I am not sure how Jennifer is going to top it in Opal.  Although I know she will.  Holy Hot Alien we will have more of Daemon and Katy.  Even if you aren't normally an alien person I would highly suggest Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series.  The is so much tension, action and moments to love that these books are not only hard to resist but flat out addictive!

Quotes & Awesome

Rolling my eyes, I faced the front of the classroom.  Daemon was a total babe, but he was stab-worthy, which, at times, zeroed out the babe part.
I closed my eyes, almost certain I was approaching stage one of a zombie infection.

When Daemon had said he wasn't giving up, I had no idea he was going to go all balls-to-the-wall right off the bat.

He paused, and I could hear the smile in his voice. "You bookish people love teasers, don't you?"

Blood Bond Blog Tour: Heather Hildenbrand - Alex's POV

HUGE Thanks to Heather for pushing me out of my "retirement" cocoon!

Today she has been kind enough to write up a little scene from my FAVORITE character's POV.....ALEX!!!

Hope you all enjoy!

Cold Blood

Chapter Twenty-Five: Alex

The radio crackled out some country song that was nothing more than a tenor voice whining for more whiskey. I didn’t pay it any attention but I didn’t turn it off, either. The background noise helped numb the fear that had settled so deeply into my chest, it left an ache similar to what I imagined a heart attack to feel like.
Tara had almost died.
I couldn’t shake the image of her lying on her back with that … thing hovering over her, about to take a bite. Each time I allowed myself to remember, the memory swept me up and threatened to overwhelm me. I took a steadying breath and gripped the wheel tighter. I had to think of something else—anything else—to distract myself.
Unwittingly, another image floated in my mind. Tara in the hotel room we’d shared for a few hours. So much of her skin bared. Bruised. Swollen. It had been both beautiful and horrific seeing her that way. And then lying next to her, sleeping, and the kiss … it had been more than I’d hoped for, her kissing me back.
She certainly hadn’t kissed me back that day in the woods. Then again, I was pretty sure she’d been in shock. I hadn’t exactly planned it, but the way her face looked in that moment … fear of Miles, complete trust in me. And then she’d been angry. There was nothing more beautiful than an angry Tara. Or so I’d thought until she’d kissed me the way she had in the hotel room. The memory of that feeling would warm me for many, many nights to come.
“How bad is this going to be for me, exactly?” Tara asked.
I kept my gaze trained on the road but her question jolted me back to harsh reality. The kiss was over. Our time together, blocking out the world and pretending it didn’t exist, was over. We were almost back to school.
“That depends,” I answered her.
“On what?”
“On our method of entry. Do you want to announce your return?”
“Um, do I have a choice?”
I knew what she was asking and I’d already worked out the answer. The shoulder widened just ahead. Perfect. “Yes.” I pulled over and got out.

We left the truck and began our hike through the darkened woods. It took my eyes a moment to adjust and then shapes of trees and the familiar, yet narrow, path came into focus. I kept my steps small so she could keep up and led the way.
She asked me about the logistics of returning this way: the truck, the wards (as if they worked anymore). I could hear the irritation in my voice as I answered her but I couldn’t help it. We were almost back to reality. There was so much to say. And she’d rather talk about the damned truck.
She must’ve caught on because I heard, “Alex, wait.”
I kept walking.
Her hand closed over my arm, my skin heating automatically where her fingers touched me. Right now, I hated my body.
“What’s your problem?” she demanded.
“Nothing. We’re almost back to school. I assume you’ll want to forget about anything that happened between us once we’re there. I’m simply switching gears to accommodate.” I felt petulant and immature saying it, but I didn’t care.
“Switching gears to accommodate?” she echoed. I could hear her temper rising in her voice. Something in my gut warmed in anticipation of a good fight. “What are you, a robot?” I kept my mouth shut, willing her to go on, to say something that mattered. “I didn’t say anything because … well, it’s complicated. You know that.” She paused. The fire had gone out of her voice. “You haven’t said anything, either.”
“You’re right. I guess I figured I made things clear.” I let sarcasm drip from my words. Baiting her.
She laughed and my nerves pricked. “Have you ever actually had a girlfriend? Because you really suck at this.” I opened my mouth to snap back a retort, but she went on, “Don’t answer that. Seriously, though, you can’t kiss a girl and expect her to automatically know your feelings through osmosis or something. Besides, when I met you, you hated me. And now you’re kissing me. So, pardon me if that leavese me a little confused.”
“I didn’t hate you.”
“Pot-ay-toes, pot-ah-toes. You were disgusted, at least.”
I shook my head and the words were out before I could stop them. “You don’t disgust me, Tara. You amaze me, impress me, surprise me, entertain me. You definitely don’t disgust me.”
I clamped my mouth shut, horrified and elated that I’d finally said it. I couldn’t take it back, no matter her response, but I didn’t really want to, now that it was out there.
She didn’t answer and my heart plummeted to somewhere around my knees. “Do I do any of those things for you?” I asked, hating how desperate I sounded. And felt.
She stared at me, the whites of her eyes barely visible in the darkness. “Yes,” she whispered.
My heart soared. I wondered if hecould hear us from where I knew he waited in the trees up ahead. I hoped so. Something twisted inside me really, really hoped so. I allowed myself three seconds to enjoy my triumph and then reality came crashing in around me. “And does Wes do any of those things for you?” I asked, trying not to choke on the name.
“Yes,” she repeated, her eyes darting away.
I changed my mind. Hopefully he couldn’t hear us.
The ache in my chest returned—for different reasons. It was my own fault. I’d known the answer the moment I’d asked.
“I think it’s best that we leave it there then. For now.” She didn’t speak and I knew the moment was done. “Let’s get you back to school and focus on getting Miles.”
“Okay.” She sounded defeated.
Exactly how I felt.

AHHHHH!!! I LOVE THIS!

Seriously does this not make you fall in love with Alex all, over, again!

Now make sure that you stalk Heather!

**REVIEW** After the Moment by Garret Freymann-Weyr

Maia Morland is pretty, only not pretty-pretty. She’s smart. She’s brave. She’s also a self-proclaimed train wreck.Leigh Hunter is smart, popular, and extremely polite. He’s also completely and forever in love with Maia Morland.Their young love starts off like a romance novel—full of hope, strength, and passion. But life is not a romance novel and theirs will never become a true romance. For when Maia needs him the most, Leigh betrays both her trust and her love.Told with compassion and true understanding, After the Moment is about what happens when a young man discovers that sometimes love fails us, and that, quite often, we fail love.

This was kind of like watching a train crash.  You know it's not going to be good but you still can't look away.  Not that the book was bad but more the events within the book.  The description made me think that this was going to be written from Maia's POV but once I got into it I realized that this is from Leigh's POV and that I was so very wrong.  Looking at the description now I can see where I overlooked that detail.  I think that the little slip up on my behalf really changed the book for me.  It was a surprise and gave me something to chew on throughout the book.

Leigh is almost too good.  Despite the fact that his parents split up he isn't a bitter teen.  He takes it all at face value and continues on with his life.  I'm not saying that all teens are bitter about divorces but normally there is some sort of emotional reaction or feeling.  Instead he dives into soccer and tries to keep up his grade average so that when he decides what to do with his life he can have his choice of colleges.  He already has the perfect girlfriend that everyone wishes was theirs.  He is so sweet in the sense that he cares so much about the people around him, especially his family. When a tragedy happens and his step sister needs him, he doesn't think twice.  It is when he moves to live with her and his father that the real story starts.

Maia is not someone Leigh would normally look twice at but he would never be rude either.  Their friendship felt so awkward to start and I really liked that.   Things didn't just slide into place easily for these two they had to really work for it.  Maia and her tendencies were really things that you needed to have patience for and Leigh did.  I think it was mostly his protective/nice nature that really guided these two together.  However having things to do led to a disaster that was beyond anything that I ever imagined it would be.

This is where the book kind of lost me.  I was really disappointed with Maia and her self loathing by this point.  Leigh did everything and I mean EVERYTHING in his power to protect her and make sure she knew that she knew he cared about her.  This included letting go of his perfect girlfriend.  Not that he had a lot of emotional attachment to her but still.  It is during this time that an "incident" occurs.  This is what ignited my fury and I don't mean a little bit but a lot.  This was something that could have been prevented or rectified after the fact because of the very clear evidence but Maia insisted it was her fault and Leigh should leave it alone.  I wanted to slap her so bad at that moment!  I understand believing something that isn't your fault to be your fault but when you are forced to do something and everyone knows this why fight it.  Then when
Leigh finally snaps and stands up for her, she leaves him.  I get why she wanted to keep it a secret but this was someone Leigh knew and considered a friend!

Basically this was a coming of age story for Leigh and Maia was his life lesson.  He loved her truly and fully but it just wasn't enough.  Not for her at least.  This fact actually stung but really they are young and despite all the book couples that seem to beat the odds this couple fell into the most likely reality category.  Sad but true.  All of the issues that are brought forward in this book are powerful and each on their own would cause a hurtle to over come on their own.  Maybe it was the fact that there was so many at once that also took away from this story.  Leigh just had his hands full trying to keep up with Maia and keep her happy and honestly that is what he wanted the most her happiness.

This novel isn't for everyone but for some I imagine it would be perfect.  I have recently come to love the contemporary books with strong emotional messages and bring up strong emotions in myself.  This book had the potential to be that for me but when the moment came everything just started to fall apart for me.  This same moment is probably where people become really invested in the book and hold onto it.  I enjoyed it for the majority and had a very strong emotional reaction to the lesser amount.  Overall I don't regret picking this book up but I sadly didn't fall in love with it like I had hopes of when I read the starting chapters.

Quotes & Teasers

It was as if she were a painting, one best appreciated by a viewer willing to look from more than one perspective.

It was odd to be around a man and want to be like that man.  It made him feel sad and disloyal that he never had wanted to be like Clayton.

Maia's voice, although calm and even, was the saddest thing Leigh had ever heard.  It was sadder than this violin concerto his mother listened to when she was depressed, and sadder than the sound of Millie and Janet crying the days right after Seth died.

Then Leigh snapped out of it, asking himself: A romance novel?  You're thinking of your failings in terms of a romance novel?

**REVIEW** Touch by Jus Accardo

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.
Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.

So I bought this one because of all of the amazing things I had heard and let me tell you it is that and then some!  This is one of those books that just seriously just demands your attention once you have started and makes you hold your breath with its action and twists.  There was nothing about this book that comes to mind that I could honestly say that I didn't like!

You are thrown into the rebellious world of Deznee aka Dez.  She parties hard and lives life to the fullest but it's mostly to tick her father off.  So when she is on her way home and stumbles upon a guy being chased she is right in her glory and ready to take him home to upset her father.  Only this guy is more than she could have ever guessed and he turns her world upside down.  Everything she thought she knew is quite possibly a lie and her father doesn't turn out to be the man she thought he was.

Due to the quick realization that Kale is different and what he is really able to do Dez is quickly a part of something that she never thought possible.  She has her own secrets and always has kept them to herself and let me tell you that you want to tell yourself that you knew... That you suspected but you will be kind of thrown when you read them for the first time.  This is only a small part of her though and to be honest she was an all around amazing character and was real.  Despite everything and being the main character she was not beyond being hurt.  She was real and open to things which made her super fun to read.  Not to mention her super awesome attitude.  This was the cause of many smiles throughout this read and lets face it who doesn't love a good dose of sarcasm?

Kale was awesome and seriously could not have been any better done.  From his background to his behaviour Jus Accardo NAILED this character.  He isn't perfect but you can't stop your heart from speeding up just a little with some of the things he does.  He does come on a little strong at times but it is really a part of who he is and what I love about him.  I think his dislike for the word "complicated" was awesome because honestly who likes to hear "it's complicated?!"

The romance in this book was absolutely freaking amazing.  It was not over bearing or fluffy.  Nor was it an insta love.  I am totally okay with instant love...  Well mostly, it momentarily frustrates me and then I love how sweet it is but anyway back to the point.   This was well built and good structured romances, the kind that makes you smile and wants to kick one or the other for not just accepting that the other cares for them.  In this case it was Dez doubting Kale and I wanted to yell and scream at her to grow up and just get on with it and not think about Alex for two more seconds.  Oh and Alex he is a previous boyfriend and if I am honest although I find him hot as hell he makes me want to punch him every time he tries to get Dez back.

Jus Accrado has such a flawless writing style that even his secondary characters fit perfectly into the story.  It was basically a perfect example of flawless writing.  The pace was consistent throughout and I can't even remember one chapter that was boring.  The action and heart racing scenes just keep coming!!  Picture X-Men but hotter.  This book will have you addicted almost immediately and will leave you wanting more for sure!

**REVIEW** Outpost by Ann Aguirre

Deuce’s whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn’t fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight.
To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.
Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.

Book Trailer
This one is animated!  Totally different.

**REVIEW**

Just when I thought it couldn't get any more high intensity, it did.  Enclave was such an intense fast paced read that when going into Outpost I figured it would slow down a little bit.  However the fast paced, heart pumping action and twists just kept on coming!  Deuce, Fade, Tegan and Stalker are all in a new place and adjusting to new circumstances and some will do better than others.

Deuce... Oh how you blow my mind.  She is just so strong and stubborn.  I love the stubborn so much and it is my favourite part about her.  Although so is starting to semi adjust she retains who she is and who she truly is, is not really welcome in her new home of Salvation.  Girls are supposed to be prim proper and at home, not out and on the front lines but Deuce needs to be.  She needs to be the Huntress as it is who she is and it wont ever change no matter where she is. She does know when she is wrong but also knows how to dance around the thin lines that can cause trouble.

Living on the surface is kind of pulling the four friends apart in this on.  Fade and Tegan seem to be fitting in just fine, while Deuce and Stalker remain apart from everyone.  This totally broke my heart in the start.  Knowing that they had all been so different and had many conflicts of interest and nothing really in common, I still figured after all they went through together that they would stick together.  Things do changes throughout the book and many developments are made.  Each person growing and becoming so much more than they were before.  Even Tegan seems to really grow in this one and I mean into someone that is stronger than she was.

The romance in this one was a little more complex and almost had me switching sides.  Oh Fade why must you evoke the need to scream?!  Not talking the girly scream either.  I am totally talking about the scream that details just how much rage I have for your idiotic boy tenancies.  However I do realize you are a boy so I breath in and out and fall back in love with you but I am warning you right this moment that Stalker and his devotion is threatening to steal my heart from you.  Despite his history and all that he did I am starting to move beyond that like Deuce and Stalker himself.  You can see the change and his new found ideas of what is wrong, actually he knows what he did was wrong now.  Plus his affection for Deuce doesn't waver.  Not even when she tells him her feelings for Fade.  Normally this would irritate me but many other factors make it kind of endearing.

There is also some new characters to love.  Namely Deuce's foster parents: Momma Oak's and Edward her husband.  They are so much more than they appear and I just want to hug Momma Oak's for her open care and love for Deuce.  She is treated like she is a legitimate child and not like some savage from the outside world.  This is the reason for some of the changes that start to occur in Deuce I am sure of it and for the simple fact that it is their doing I am okay with it.  I was actually surprised at just how easily these secondary characters slipped into the story and my heart.

Outpost has also upped the ante and gave everyone more to loose.  Not only that the odds aren't what they have seemed to be before and everyone need to prepare themselves for the worst.  I did say that this book just kept the pace going and the twist coming so you had to know that things were going to be a little more dangerous (or A LOT) and give you more to guess about.  The breath holding continues in this book because Ms. Aguirre is the type of author that leaves her characters open to be hurt... Maybe more.  This is something that I love about her and her books: no one is safe.  Just because you are well known does not mean that you are immune.

Hold on to your seats people because your are in for quite a ride with this one.  Ms Aguirre has created yet another outstanding novel that left me wanting more.  There is a dire need within me to know how everyone is doing and what the Freaks will do next.  We are shown the many sides of humanity and how different people deal with things.  Love, lust, envy, hate and anger all show their faces with many more emotions in the mix.  This book is the thing that nightmares are made of and where hope can come from.  If you haven't read Enclave I suggest you do so that you can move onto this spectacular novel!

Quotes & Bits

Mrs. James liked Tegan, much as all adults did, whereas she sighed at me, calling me an "unfortunate case of blighted potential," whatever that meant.
His kiss didn't surprise me. My response did.
Yet for Tegan, I'd go.  I'd try to make people like me, using an ability other than stabbing monsters with my knives.  If that wasn't a mark on true friendship, I couldn't imagine what one might be.
"Why is it that every time  I hear your voice, girl, I know my life's about to get more complicated?"
